BoingyBooks ("we," "us," or "our") is an ebook publishing platform and marketplace operated by BooksAndGuidesPro.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use boingybooks.com or the BoingyBooks companion apps (the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

The companion apps let you sign in to an existing account, retrieve your library, and synchronize reading information. The apps do not create accounts or offer purchases, subscriptions, book publishing, voice recording, or AI generation.

When you save a note, highlight, or bookmark in an account-connected reader, we store its text, selected book excerpt, reading location, and synchronization history for your individual account. These annotations are private to the person who created them; sharing a publisher or organization account does not make one person's notes available to another member. Notes are not sent to narration or AI providers as part of reading synchronization.
The companion apps encrypt downloaded books and local annotation backups on your device. Signing out removes downloaded books and the saved sign-in. Encrypted notes waiting to synchronize remain on that device so the same account can recover them after signing in again. Removing the app before those notes synchronize removes that local backup. Website readers also keep local browser copies to support interrupted connections.
When you access the Service, we may automatically collect:
Server request logs support operation, security, and troubleshooting. Search terms are not used for advertising profiles. Account-linked reading and delivery signals also support aggregate service analytics. We do not infer location from IP addresses in the companion reader.

We use Stripe to process marketplace payments and seller payouts. When you make a purchase or connect a seller account, your payment information is handled directly by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
We use Google Cloud Vision for optical character recognition (OCR) when you upload documents for text extraction. Uploaded document images are sent to Google for processing and are subject to Google's data handling policies.
We use configured OpenAI services for text and illustrated-page preparation and for supported audio features. Relevant book text, page images, or audio are sent for the requested processing.
We use ElevenLabs for supported narration generation, word timing alignment, and independent speech verification. When these features are used, the relevant narration text and final audio, including a human recording you submit for synchronization, are sent to ElevenLabs for processing.
You can create and use a BoingyBooks account directly. Existing linked BooksAndGuidesPro.com memberships may also supply account identity and membership information for supported sign-in and publisher access.
BoingyBooks uses a minimal number of cookies:

We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
Removing a note, highlight, or bookmark removes it from the active reading view. Synchronization records, deletion markers, and prior request results may remain with your account so an offline device or repeated request cannot silently restore a removed item or overwrite a newer edit. Account privacy and deletion requests include this annotation history.
We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or regulatory purposes.
Published books that have been purchased by other users will remain available to those buyers, but your personal information will be removed from public-facing author profiles.
Request deletion of your BoingyBooks account and associated data. Requests are handled by our support team after verifying account ownership; this is not an automatic deletion button. You can make the request without reinstalling the app.

BoingyBooks is not directed at children under the age of 13. The platform is designed for adult authors, publishers, and readers. While books published on BoingyBooks may be intended for child audiences, the platform itself (account creation, publishing tools, marketplace) is intended for use by adults.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. The Service is hosted in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. For significant changes, we will also notify registered users by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
