Faust, Part One by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
English translation by Bayard Taylor
Dissatisfied scholar Faust encounters Mephistopheles and enters a bargain that leads him into the life of Gretchen. Goethe's drama moves between verse, dialogue and changing scenes.
This edition contains Part One only, ending with the prison scene. It does not include Faust, Part Two. Taylor's translation presents the work in English in the original metres.
